Does Google Analytics 4 Have a Future?

As cookie blockers, ad blockers, and browsers increasingly block third-party cookies, relying on them for Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is not sustainable.

Most GA4 setups still depend on third-party cookies. This approach is quickly becoming outdated and will result is less and less data over time.

So, how can you future-proof your analytics? The answer lies in server-side tracking and Stape offers an affordable solution for even small businesses.

Server-side tracking (SST) offers a way to implement GA4 without relying on third-party cookies. Unlike traditional client-side tracking, which collects data through the user’s browser, SST gathers data directly from the server.

This approach offers several key benefits:

1. Enhanced Data Accuracy: By tracking on the server-side, SST bypasses issues caused by ad blockers, tracking prevention software, and lack of cookie consent, ensuring more complete and reliable data.

2. Improved Data Security: With SST, sensitive data is processed on your server, reducing the risk of exposure in the browser and offering greater protection against privacy concerns.

3. Better Performance: SST reduces the size of tracking code on the front-end, leading to slight improvements in website load times—crucial for user experience and SEO.

4. Resilience to Future Changes: As browsers like Safari, Firefox, and soon Chrome continue to block third-party cookies, SST ensures your analytics remain effective and accurate.

First-party cookies will remain essential, allowing websites to remember visitor history without the privacy concerns tied to third-party cookies.
